Being diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus not only involves medical, physical and nutritional challenges, but also mental health challenges due to the chronic nature of the illness and the lifestyle restrictions it imposes. Research shows that Depression, Anxiety and other emotional problems are common in patients with Diabetes. If these remain undiagnosed and untreated, they become a major barrier in self-care, and lead to poorer glycemic control, difficulties with treatment adherence, reduced quality of life, and ultimately poorer prognosis with respect to morbidity and mortality.

Health staff in hospitals and medical set-ups lack the necessary knowledge and skills to identify psychological and emotional difficulties in patients. The mental health care team at Intellytics Diabetes Institute consists of expert Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists who are trained to continuously evaluate and engage with every patient to assess at-risk patients, and offer interventions that equip them with effective coping strategies to improve their emotional well-being and quality of life. This helps patients to remain motivated not only with respect to their medical goals, but also their life goals.

The aim of the mental health care team is to help patients seamlessly assimilate the diagnosis of Diabetes into their life such a way that in least interferes with their self-perception, confidence, emotional health, relationship with significant others, occupation, leisure activities, and various other aspects of their lives.
